Heather Anika Scogin, MA, RMHCI, RYT-500

Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

Primary Therapist

Yoga Instructor

Heather is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Orleans.  Upon relocating to Florida, Heather had a career as a model for agencies in Miami and Orlando.  Her lifelong interest in psychology and helping others led her to get her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Webster University.  She graduated in August of 2021 with honors and a GPA of 3.98.  Heather has worked in mental health with diverse populations including Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers with Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation; families in crisis through outreach at Circles of Care; and pregnant women, women with children, and senior women at Genesis House.  Grounded in positive psychology, Heather’s theoretical approach to counseling is humanistic and person-centered.  She believes that the past doesn’t determine the present or the future.  Heather works collaboratively with individuals to help them uncover and dissolve the roots of trauma so they can reach their life’s goals.  She empowers others to see the future through self-efficacy, optimism, and hope.

Heather is also passionate about yoga.  She started doing yoga more than twenty years ago as a physical practice, but soon realized that it is so much more.  Through her yoga experience, Heather learned that as our bodies become stronger and more flexible, so do our minds, allowing us to move through life with a greater sense of ease and grace.  She spent extensive time in India studying yoga and ayurveda.  She has become a Registered Yoga Teacher holding certifications in multiple lineages and styles, and an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant.  She recently acquired an advanced certification in Therapeutic Yoga for Mental Health.  In her yoga classes, Heather uses movement, breathwork, mindfulness, and meditation to create the space and awareness needed for healing and growth.

Through integrating her mental health education with her studies of ancient wisdom traditions, Heather holistically helps people achieve mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health and happiness.  Heather is dedicated and compassionate while guiding her patients on their wellness journeys to find fulfillment and create meaningful, lasting change.

Heather is a proud mother of two sons and enjoys spending time with her family & friends and being in nature.  Her active lifestyle includes surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, acroyoga, biking, and cooking.
